COVID-19 and the May Revise

COVID-19 and the May Revise: Labor and Employment Considerations
Event Single

Details

As many anticipated, the Governor's May Revision to the proposed state budget reflects significant drops in state funding in nearly every sector due to decreases in anticipated revenue caused by COVID-19. Public education is no exception, with significant proposed reductions to K-12 and community college district funding. While the budget still needs to pass through the Legislature prior to being signed into law, it is expected that major cuts to public education will remain. Public school districts must consider and weigh potential options to adapt to these budget realities.

In this discussion, you will learn about options and considerations--focusing on labor and employment implications--from a panel of distinguished Lozano Smith attorneys who have assisted many districts navigate economic downtowns of the past. Topics covered will include labor negotiations, the availability of certificated summer layoffs, re-opening considerations, and other tools to ensure your district's long-term financial health while minimizing the impact on students.
