Details
This fall, we invite you to join us for a three-part virtual workshop designed to support school leaders in navigating some of the most pressing and complex issues at the intersection of special education and student support. With a mix of legal insight and real-world application, these sessions aim to empower educators with the tools and knowledge needed to support compliance and promote student success.Recent Legal Updates and What They Mean
Legal Update
This session provides a comprehensive legal update on the most significant recent developments in special education law. The presentation will examine key judicial decisions, regulatory updates, and new federal and state agency guidance impacting the rights of students with disabilities and the responsibilities of educational institutions. Attendees will gain valuable insights to support compliance, inform policy and practice, and anticipate areas of potential legal exposure.
Making Placement Decisions That Promote Belonging
Analyzing the Least Restrictive Environment
This session equips school district staff with a clear, practical understanding of the legal requirements and decision-making framework for determining the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) for students with disabilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Using real-world examples and case scenarios, the session will provide tools and strategies to help IEP teams make legally sound, student-centered placement decisions that promote both access to general education and meaningful educational benefit.
More Than Just Attendance: Keeping Students Present and Learning
Addressing Attendance Concerns
Navigating conversations that may be challenging – for example, whether to exit a child from special education or declining an initial assessment – requires skill and finesse. In this session, hear from attorneys and a former special education administrator on what the law requires in these situations, and how to have these conversations with the goal of reaching a mutual understanding. Be prepared to leave this session thinking about these conversations differently, and with some new tips going forward!
