Overview

Bailey Hughes is an Associate in Lozano Smith’s Monterey Office. Ms. Hughes’ practice focuses on issues related to labor and employment, special education and student matters.

Experience

Ms. Hughes advises clients on various student-related issues such as student search restrictions, access to records, and other constitutional issues. She also regularly advises clients on their legal obligations under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and other state and federal laws. Additionally, she frequently drafts settlement agreements, responses to due process complaints, responses to California Department of Education complaints, and prior written notices for clients.

Prior to joining Lozano Smith, Ms. Hughes gained practical experience while working as an associate for a civil litigation firm primarily handling contract disputes.

Education

Ms. Hughes earned her Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law in San Diego, where she received the Dean’s Merit Scholarship, as well as the Faculty Award. While in law school, she participated in her school’s Mediation Clinic and was a mediator at the San Diego Superior Court of California, Small Claims Department. Ms. Hughes also received the Academic Excellence Award in Alternative Dispute Resolution. Additionally, during her time at California Western, she was actively involved in the school’s mentor program. Prior to law school, Ms. Hughes earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with a minor in Global Politics from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
