Lozano Smith Attorney to Present at the California Autism Professional Training and Information Network Summit

Sacramento, Calif., (October 4, 2013) - Lozano Smith's Marcy Gutierrez has partnered with the UC Davis Mind Institute and the California Autism Professional Training and Information Network (CAPTAIN) to present at its first annual summit regarding SB 946 legislation and autism insurance mandates. The goal of this network and summit is better collaboration, communication and implementation of evidence based practices (EBPs) for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs). This event will bring together over 400 Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) autism specialists, regional center autism specialists, Faculty from UC Davis and the Family Resource Centers Network of California as well as other interested community members.

Marcy Gutierrez, leading California attorney in the area of special education, joins a panel of experts to discuss the impacts of SB 946 at the upcoming CAPTAIN Summit in Northern California. Ms. Gutierrez is scheduled to examine the SELPA/School perspective on SB 946 and special considerations that may arise within the Individualized Education Program team process. As part of the panel discussion, Ms. Gutierrez will highlight the distinctions between SB 946 and IDEA requirements and discuss the relevance of such distinctions when determining appropriate educationally-based interventions for students with ASD.

The Northern California Summit will be held on October 18, 2013 at the San Joaquin County Office of Education in Stockton. This signature CAPTAIN event is one that provides statewide access to trainings in EBPs that are locally based, culturally sensitive and competency based.
