This session will dive into essential requirements of California’s open meeting law, with guidance on notices, agenda setting, serial meetings, closed session, public participation, disruption and prohibitions related to board member use of social media and e-communications. While designed primarily for new board members, this session is useful also for experienced board members in need of a refresher. The session will help participants learn what gathering of board members the Brown Act deems a meeting, how the public must be informed of closed sessions, rules guiding public participation in open meetings, how board member use of social media may involve the Brown Act, and recent updates to the Brown Act.This event is reserved for school district or public agency employees only.
