As incidents of workplace violence continue to affect school sites and district offices across California, school employers are increasingly turning to using Workplace Violence Restraining Orders ("WVROs") as a legal tool to protect staff, students, and campus safety. In light of recent statutory changes, particularly SB 553, this session will provide a timely and practical overview of WVROs, including who can file, what conduct qualifies, how these orders function in the school context, and strategic considerations for navigating the court process and dealing with unique circumstances. For conduct that falls short of workplace violence, this session will also highlight other tools available to administrators, including communication plans and stay-away letters. The session will break down the procedural requirements and protections offered by WVROs to equip HR professionals and other administrators with the tools to handle difficult, harassing, threatening, and violent individuals. This event is reserved for school district or public agency employees only.
