Special Education Professional Development Series - Fall SELC
Event Single

Details

This half-day event covers longstanding special education requirements alongside up-to-the-minute legal updates related to COVID-19. Lozano Smith attorneys will walk through several of the most pressing special education issues that special education administrators and staff consistently face, while also diving into new and concrete legal requirements that have developed over this past year.

This blend of practical applications and day-to-day guidance is ideal for new and experienced special educators and those responsible for student services. Join us as we analyze recent cases and administrative decisions, outline best practices, and share exclusive tools and checklists.

Featured Sessions:

During this presentation, we will discuss critical components of IEPs-such as goals, services, transition plans, and more-and how to make such components as legally defensible as possible. Presenters will also share changes to legal requirements for IEPs that have occurred in the last year and best-practices for IEP writing in the post-COVID era. We will discuss case law surrounding the importance of properly drafting IEPs as well as tips and strategies to help IEP teams avoid legal pitfalls.

This presentation will give you helpful hints and checklists that will be useful for new and experienced special educators alike. We will review how to respond to records requests, IEE requests, attorneys showing up at IEP meetings unannounced, need for Prior Written Notices as well as other practical advice to assist in the day-to-day activities that special education departments face. Participants will receive practical "cheat sheets" about common occurrences for use in everyday practice.

This crowd-favorite examines the most significant court and administrative decisions of the past year. We will also highlight recently passed and pending laws and their impact on special education programs.
