Overview

Rebecca A. Seldin is an Associate in Lozano Smith's Monterey Office. Ms. Seldin focuses on assisting clients in a wide-variety of matters related to special education and litigation.

Experience

Ms. Seldin previously served as a Deputy Public Defender for Santa Barbara and Riverside Counties, where she gained valuable experience litigating complex criminal cases. Ms. Seldin held multiple roles in her office, including representing clients facing complex felony criminal charges, representing clients with severe mental illness and cognitive disabilities in the County's Treatment Courts and managing Countywide grants fostering support for those suffering from homelessness and severe mental illness. Ms. Seldin has conducted numerous jury trials to verdict and over 200 preliminary hearings and motion hearings. Ms. Seldin's work as a public defender also included extensive written motion work. She enjoyed litigating Mental Health Diversion Petitions which identified clients intersecting with the criminal justice system due to challenges they experience from their mental illness and advocated treatment as opposed to incarceration. In addition to her work in the courtroom, she also presented and advocated to the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors, as well as mental health organizations such as the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and other community partners, on diversion efforts in the community.

Education

Ms. Seldin earned her Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law in San Diego. Ms. Seldin earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of California, Davis.
