Jimmy Macias is an Associate in Lozano Smith's Monterey office. His practice primarily focuses on the labor and employment, and litigation aspects of public agency law.
Mr. Macias helps defend clients in unfair labor practices charges before the Public Employment Relations Board, including drafting answers to complaints and position statements, as well as participating in settlement conferences. He advises clients regarding matters of employee discipline and works on all phases of dismissal charges for both classified and certificated staff before both the Office of Administrative Hearings and Personnel Commission. Mr. Macias is experienced in defending allegations against administrators before the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Mr. Macias is well versed in unfair labor practices, litigation before administrative law judges, enforcement of claims, and conducting investigations. Mr. Macias is also well-versed in the wage and hour provisions of the Labor Code and previously worked for the Department of Industrial Relations, Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE) where he represented the DLSE in Superior Court, Court of Appeal, and Federal Court matters.
Mr. Macias earned his J.D. from University of Notre Dame Law School, where he served as the Treasurer of the Hispanic Law Students Association, and was a member of Delta Theta Phi and the Notre Dame Legal Aid Clinic. Mr. Macias earned his B.A. from the University of Notre Dame, where he served as a member of the Latino Leaders Council. Mr. Macias is fluent in Spanish.
