Who should be trained?
> The Title IX Coordinator, including:
• understanding and implementing the district’s grievance procedures;
• Federal and State laws, regulations, and policies that overlap with Title IX;
• working with and interviewing sexual violence victims;
• conducting investigations;
• consent and the role drugs or alcohol can play in the ability to consent;
• accountability for perpetrators and remedial actions;
• determining credibility;
• evaluating and weighing evidence; and
• the preponderance of evidence standard.
> All responsible employees, including:
• their reporting obligation;
• consequences for failure to report;
• appropriate methods for interacting with sexual violence victims;
• handling requests for confidentiality; and
• informing students of counseling and other options, the right to file a Title IX complaint, and the right to report
a crime to law enforcement.
(Note: A responsible employee is any employee: (1) who has the authority to take action to redress sexual
violence; (2) who has been given the duty of reporting incidents of sexual violence or any other misconduct by
students to the Title IX coordinator or other appropriate school designee; or (3) whom a student could reasonably
believe has this authority or duty.)
> Counselors, including the extent to which they may keep a report of sexual violence confidential.
> School police and resource officers.
> All other employees likely to witness or receive reports of sexual violence (e.g., volunteer coaches).
> Students, with age and grade appropriate content and methods.
