It's An E-World Workshop

"It's an E-World" - In the 21st Century, school districts are faced with more complex issues about the use of e-mail and the Internet than ever before: Employees who post information on inappropriate Internet sites; students who bully one another on-line; use of computers during the school day; questions about retention of Board member e-mail. . . . To help meet the challenges of the "E-World" in which school districts must now operate, Lozano Smith is pleased to offer a free, state-of-the-art three hour workshop to school administrators and Board members in 12 California locations. Facilities and Business Consortium

We are excited to once again present the Facilities and Business Consortium for school business administrators. Two sessions of Lozano Smith’s Facilities and Business Consortium will be conducted in 9 California locations this year. Our attorneys have worked very hard over the summer to bring you a new, cutting edge workshop about how school districts must operate in the “Electronic Age”. The results of their work is the all-encompassing “It’s An E-World: School Districts in the Electronic Age”, which will be Session 1 of the two-part Consortium. Session 2, titled: “Does Public Works History Have to Repeat Itself?: Minimizing Risk and Resolving Disputes On Construction Projects” will focus on techniques for minimizing risk before and during construction projects, as well as how to better manage construction disputes. Detailed descriptions of the workshops, location information, and a registration form can be found here: Registration Form.

Monterey Area Labor & Employment Consortium

It is time once again to plan your negotiations strategy! In this workshop, Lozano Smith attorneys will highlight current issues affecting negotiations, including program improvement, retirement benefits, the state budget, and impasse procedures. In addition, we will discuss aspects of school improvement programs which may conflict with union contract language and what to do about it, as well as how to deal with GASB 45, the accounting standard requiring Districts to set aside funding for retirement benefits, and much more!.

Special Education Legal Consortium

Another year of the Lozano Smith Special Education Legal Consortium is underway. Don’t miss two sessions of the latest legal updates and analysis of special education law! The fall session, “Identifying and Serving Non-Academic Needs”, will run the gamut from child find to discipline and highlight common pitfalls for IEP teams that focus on academic needs without also addressing non-academic needs. In the spring, we will help you avoid special education traps by addressing several particularly thorny areas of current special education law.
