Proposition 64 legalized recreational marijuana use in California. The legal impacts of this change in the law are small when it comes to students; but practical implications may be significant and challenging. Additionally, 734,422 students received special education services in 201-2016. In 2018, legislation was introduced to allow medical marijuana use on campus for students receiving special education services. This presentation addresses the issues board members need to understand to effectively adopt policy in this changing legal landscape, including: interaction between medical marijuana, the IDEA, ADA and other disability-related laws, possession and use, search and seizure, discipline, testing, drug-free workplace, and parent involvement. This event is reserved for school district or public agency employees only.
