The Internet, social networking websites, cell phones, and new technologies continue to provide opportunities for students to take part in conduct that may violate the Education Code or board policies, and disrupt or otherwise affect the educational environment. This workshop will examine the big issues and questions that must be understood to successfully address these situations, with a focus on student rights, recent legislation, and litigation.

Workshop Topics include:
• Jurisdictional challenges related to technology and student discipline
• Free speech rights of students and exceptions that will allow a school to enforce discipline
• Legal trends in cases involving e-discipline
• Practical advice and best practices for addressing discipline related to electronic activity
