After many fairly quiet years, the renewed housing boom has brought developers back in full force. As a result, school impact mitigation issues; developer fee protests and lawsuits; and scrutiny of both new development and the schools to serve that development are all on a rapid rise. The impacts of this new development on schools is all the greater in light of dwindling state funds for school construction. This workshop will review developer fee law and the latest trends and will discuss strategy around how you can mitigate the impacts of new development on schools beyond sim¬ply collecting fees. The session will also address working with developers before and after they receive entitlements and engaging the community to manage expectations.
